A well established fiduciary company to the Marine sector requires a skilled and competent Compliance Officer to join their small but friendly team in Malta.  The primary role is to act as a Compliance Officer and perform all necessary duties to make sure the company is fully compliant with rules and regulations.

Key/specific duties of the primary role:

  • Keeping abreast of external changes that may or will impact on the business, in particular where these relate to regulatory, fiscal, legal etc.
  • Maintenance of business registers, litigation and complaints lists.
  • Reporting to the board and/or senior management team on compliance matter.
  • Review managed companies in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
  • Review risk assessments, ECDD and or CDD documentation for new and existing
    business/clients, report deficiencies (if any) and make suggestions for remedial action.
  • Provide advice on compliance matters, including fiduciary regulations and the handbook, local legislation relating to drug trafficking, money laundering, tax compliance (e.g. FATCA) and any other legislation. Approve policy or procedure which impacts on the conduct of the business.
  • Apply and maintain a risk-based testing programme with a regular report to the board.
  • Undertake internet-based and other research, including that necessary to ensure that client profiles are up to date and complete.
  • Assist with identifying key regulatory changes that impact the business and clients.
  • Assist with preparing and delivering timely statutory reporting for all regulated entities and maintain statutory registers.
  • Ensure good relationships with regulators.
  • Maintain compliance elements of core databases.
  • Contribute to ongoing discussions and thinking regarding risks and risk mitigation.
  • Assist the Finance Manager, with any help required regarding book-keeping, accounting or tax computations.
  • Such other reasonable tasks and objectives that may be requested from time to time.

The Candidate

Skills and Experience:

  • ICSA, ICA Diploma in Compliance or Risk, or any relevant qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Compliance Officer or similar role with a CSP in Malta.
  • Excellent knowledge of PMLFTR, PMLA, CSP Rules and Implementing Procedures.
  • Understanding of CSP, specifically related to shipping.
  • Risk awareness – able to recognise and respond to risk situations and stays up to date with appropriate legislation and professional standards.
  • IT literacy eg NavOne, Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Strong spoken and written communication and commanding use of English Language.
