The Role

The Compliance Officer and MLRO will join a dynamic, international team in a company that is disrupting traditional banking and payment products:

  • To ensure that our Client complies with all requirements under the Financial Institutions Act 1994, the MFSA Financial Institution Rules, the Prevention of Money Laundering Act 1994, the Prevention of Money Laundering Regulations, the relevant Guidance Notes and any other applicable regulatory requirements;
  • To ensure that all officers and employees are made aware of the regulatory requirements applicable in terms of the said laws, rules and regulations, including the Company’s internal rules;
  • To report any suspicious transactions to the MFSA and the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit, even if the transaction is not carried out;
  • To review and approve the application of new and existing customers in compliance with the Applicant’s customer onboarding process and applicable legal requirements;
  • To ensure that proper Know Your Customer procedures are in place and are carried out as soon as reasonably practicable from the entering into of the business relationship;
  • To ensure that proper records of all transactions and customers are kept.

The Candidate

  • Must be warranted to practice law in Malta;
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a relevant role – being already PQ’d by MFSA would be an asset;
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and controls (e.g. AML);
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Integrity and professional ethics;
  • Professional certification (e.g. Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) would be considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Highly developed sense of teamwork and co-operation;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Pro-active and able to work on own initiative;
  • Excellent verbal and communications skills in English.
