An award-winning American company, offering accounting & risk management for global assurance firms, is looking for an analytical and highly-organised Insurance Officer to join their Malta office.

Key responsibilities:

  • Underwriting of insurance and reinsurance contracts for client companies, in compliance with the underwriting guidelines;
  • To assist with the drafting and issuing of cover notes, debit and credit notes together with the appropriate policy documents;
  • To handle and negotiate claims settlements, together with agreeing recoveries where appropriate from insurers and reinsurers and to maintain the associated claims databases;
  • To maintain and prepare statistics, reports, and statements of premiums, claims reserves and IBNR provisions, in line with the client’s loss reserving and accounting policies;
  • Preparation and presentation of insurance and management reports for client meetings;
  • To assist/coordinate the planning of client board and committee meetings and the production of the necessary agenda, board/committee papers and minutes;
  • To assist on all insurance (and to limited extent accounting functions) for a selected portfolio of client companies. Where possible the employee will be given responsibility for completion of self-contained tasks or clients, subject to the review procedures required by the company;
  • To  assist/contribute to the production of management accounts (technical insurance side) together with supporting documents  for the board  and  other meetings, and comply  with clients’ individual normal reporting requirements;
  • To compile and submit periodical returns to regulatory authorities;
  • As may be necessary, to assist in banking transactions and asset management administration for a selected portfolio of client companies in compliance with the Investment Guidelines;
  • To assist in the preparation of financial statements (technical insurance side) to the pre-audit stage, and to assist the respective client company’s auditors;
  • To  assist  with  the  preparation   of  budgets,  feasibility  studies  and  similar  financial projections;
  • To assist in the implementation and operation of all computer systems;
  • To undertake the relevant procedures to maintain and enhance the company’s quality standards;
  • To assist colleagues, and provide cover while colleagues are away from the office;
  • To entertain clients, as requested, during and outside business hours;
  • To assist in the training of colleagues and associates of the company;
  • To attend suitable training courses either in Malta or abroad;
  • To assist in the general running and operations of the office, including occasionally answering the telephone and carrying out similar routine office functions.

The Candidate

  • CII Qualifications/ACII/.A. Hons (Insurance)/AIRM;
  • Preferably around a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar position;
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office/particularly fluent in Excel;
  • Specilaised in Underwriting, Claims, Reinsurance. Experience also in other areas, such as Risk Management would be considered to be an asset;
  • Positive personality;
  • Great presentation skills, public speaking.
