Our Client has recently opened up the position of Legal and Compliance Officer and is seeking a talented individual with a demonstrable record of accomplishment to join their dynamic team of professionals.

The right candidate will be forming a core part of the legal and compliance team, supporting the institution’s Head of Compliance and Head of Legal, reviewing and enhancing of current day-to-day processes.

Main duties include:

  • Drafting and vetting of contracts with third party service providers as well as bank customers and counterparties;
  • Drafting, reviewing and assisting in issuing guarantee letters, pledge agreements, facility letters and other contracts and documentation for and on behalf of the institution;
  • Maintenance of databases and files in a central registry;
  • Supporting the head of legal with legal research;
  • Liaising with regulatory authorities;
  • Advising executives and employees about changes to the legal framework and regulatory environment of the bank;
  • Assisting with the drafting of legal documentation for the organisation;
  • Supporting the Head of Legal and Head of Compliance with their day-to-day workload;
  • Other duties to be determined by the Head of Legal and Head of Compliance.

The Candidate

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a relevant role;
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and controls (e.g. Anti-Money Laundering, or AML);
  • Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Integrity and professional ethics;
  • Professional certification (e.g. Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)) would be considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Highly-developed sense of teamwork and cooperation Attention to detail;
  • Pro-active and able to work on own initiative;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Maltese.
