The selected candidate will play a key role in ensuring the company’s ongoing adherence to all regulatory, compliance, and anti-money laundering obligations. This is a senior position requiring strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently while providing strategic compliance direction across the business.

Key Responsibilities Compliance Officer Duties
  • Act as the Compliance Officer in terms of the Rules for Company Service Providers and the Code of Conduct for Trustees issued by the MFSA, demonstrating independence of judgment and ensuring proper day-to-day control over the company’s regulated activities.
  • Liaise with the MFSA as required and ensure timely submission of all compliance-related reports and returns.
  • Prepare and submit the Annual Compliance Report in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure internal policies and procedures remain aligned with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Monitor compliance with statutory, AML/CFT, and regulatory obligations across the business.
  • Conduct and oversee Client Risk Assessments and Business Risk Assessments, ensuring they are completed as required.
  • Provide pre-onboarding risk reports to the Board of Directors and ensure independence from client onboarding processes.
  • Monitor incoming and outgoing client funds and investigate any client complaints or irregularities.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with FATCA, CRS, DAC6, and other reporting requirements to the Inland Revenue Department.
  • Maintain an organised filing system and keep the Errors and Breaches Register up to date, notifying the MFSA when required.
  • Provide compliance input and advice to support risk management strategies.
  • Sign off on marketing materials and communications from a compliance perspective.
  • Ensure company-wide compliance with applicable Employment, Health and Safety, Tax, GDPR, and other laws.
MLRO Duties
  • Act as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer in terms of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (1994) and related legislation.
  • Manage communication and coordination with the FIAU and other regulatory authorities.
  • Stay informed on regulatory updates and assess the implications for company policies and procedures.
  • Oversee client onboarding, ensuring due diligence and KYC checks are properly executed for all clients.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal AML/CFT policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Conduct AML/CFT risk assessments and report findings to the Board of Directors.
  • Lead AML audits and ensure that remedial actions are completed promptly.
  • Provide AML/CFT training to staff and raise awareness of regulatory obligations.
  • Act as the company’s subject matter expert on AML/CFT issues and provide guidance to senior management.
  • Investigate and report suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
  • Oversee transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and filtering processes.
  • Ensure completion and submission of all AML/CFT-related returns to the FIAU and MFSA.
  • Handle ad hoc compliance assignments as they arise.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a Compliance and/or MLRO role within a regulated environment, ideally within Corporate Services or Financial Services.
  • In-depth knowledge of AML/CFT regulations, MFSA rules, and FIAU guidance.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound professional judgment.
  • Relevant qualifications in Law, Compliance, or Financial Services will be considered an asset.
