Forming a core part of the Compliance team, supporting the organisation's Head of Compliance, reviewing and enhancement of current day-to-day processes.
 
Main duties include:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an effective legal compliance program;
  • Create sound internal controls and monitor adherence to them;
  • Draft and revise company policies and procedures;
  • Proactively audit processes, practices and documents to identify weaknesses;
  • Evaluate business activities (e.g. investments) to assess compliance risk;
  • Collaborate with external auditors and HR when needed;
  • Set plans to manage a crisis or compliance violation;
  • Assist the Head of Legal and Compliance and MLRO in educating and training employees on regulations and industry practices;
  • Advise the executives and employees on changes to the laws affecting the company;
  • Address employee concerns or questions on legal compliance;
  • Keep abreast of internal standards and business goals;
  • Liaising with the Regulatory Authorities;
  • Up-keeping of databases and files in a central registry;
  • Providing support to the Head of Legal & Compliance and MLRO in day-to-day activities;
  • Other duties to be determined by the Head of Legal and Compliance.
 Requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Compliance Officer;
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and controls (e.g. Anti-Money Laundering, or AML);
  • Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Integrity and professional ethics;
  • Business acumen;
  • Professional certification (e.g. Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)) is a plus;
  • Experience in risk management would be considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Highly-developed sense of teamwork and cooperation Attention to detail;
  • Pro-active and able to work on own initiative;
  • A will to learn and professionally grow through personal development;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Maltese;
  • Exposure and experience in the banking sector would be considered an asset.
