A licensed and regulated fintech organisation is seeking an experienced
MLRO to lead its AML/CFT compliance function in Malta. With a strong presence across multiple jurisdictions and a growing portfolio of services, the organisation offers a collaborative environment that combines the agility of a start-up with the stability of an established operation.
The company provides end-to-end digital payment solutions, including a global eWallet product that facilitates seamless money transfers via a broad network of banks and local payment methods.
Key Responsibilities: - Lead and manage the AML/CFT compliance framework in accordance with Maltese regulatory requirements.
- Provide informed, independent challenge to decisions potentially impacting the company’s regulatory obligations.
- Design, implement, and maintain effective AML/CFT policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Act as the escalation point for internal reports, ensuring timely investigation and resolution of suspicious activities.
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies and law enforcement on AML/CFT-related matters.
- Support and prepare for internal, external, and regulatory audits, ensuring timely submission of required reports.
- Develop AML guidance documents, training programs, and awareness campaigns.
- Advise senior stakeholders on the impact of regulatory changes or policy updates.
- Ensure breaches are reported to the appropriate authorities as required.
- Oversee transaction monitoring, filtering, and sanctions screening processes.
- Coordinate with the UK MLRO based in the Belfast office.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement proportionate, risk-based controls.
- Manage the SAR process and ensure accurate, timely reporting to the FIAU.
- Maintain open communication with both the MFSA and FIAU on all AML/CFT compliance matters.
Requirements: - AML/Compliance certification (recognized qualification).
- A minimum of 3 years in a regulatory or compliance role within financial services.
- Prior approval by the MFSA to serve as MLRO is essential.
- Strong knowledge of Maltese AML/CFT laws and regulations.
- Proven experience handling direct communication with the MFSA and FIAU.
- Prior experience in a similar role within the Maltese market.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
