Our client is a fast-growing, innovative fintech company specializing in payment orchestration and merchant solutions. They provide advanced payment infrastructure and services to businesses operating in high-growth sectors. The company is currently scaling rapidly and is seeking a strong leader to head their Merchant Operations function.
About the Role We are looking for a hands-on and experienced Head of Merchants, to lead the Merchant Operations and Account Management function. In this critical leadership role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining excellent relationships with merchants, ensuring smooth payment operations, and driving high levels of merchant satisfaction and growth. You will act as the strategic leader and main escalation point for all merchant-related matters while working closely with PSPs, acquirers, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop the Merchant Operations and Account Management team.
Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with merchants, focusing on satisfaction, retention, and growth
Oversee day-to-day payment operations and ensure efficient issue resolution
Manage relationships and communication with PSPs, acquirers, and other payment partners
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex merchant and payment-related matters
Identify opportunities to optimise payment performance, reduce declines, and support merchant business growth
Collaborate with internal teams (Product, Risk, Compliance, and Technical Support) to continuously improve merchant experience
Requirements
3-5 years of relevant experience in payments, fintech, or financial services managing a small team
Strong background in Merchant Services, Account Management, or Payment Operations
Solid understanding of payment flows, PSP ecosystems, acquirers, and the full transaction lifecycle
Proven team leadership and people management skills
Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities
Results-oriented mindset with a strong focus on merchant satisfaction and performance metrics
