Sportsbook Platform Architect

We are not looking for a generic architect or hands-on coder. We are specifically looking for someone who has successfully built a Sportsbook platform from the ground up. This is the single most important requirement for the role.
You must understand the architectural realities of sportsbook operations at scale — real-time odds, trading integrations, bet settlement, wallet flows, high concurrency, event-driven systems, and ultra-low latency performance during peak sporting events. If you have not previously built a sportsbook platform, this role is not the right fit.
This is a strategic leadership position for someone who has already "been there and done that" in the betting industry and wants to own the full technical blueprint of a next-generation gaming ecosystem.
You will be the technology owner — defining the architecture, selecting the tech stack, and helping build the engineering organization around the platform.
The Mission

• Design, build, and evolve the architecture of a large-scale sportsbook platform using your direct experience building similar systems from scratch.
• Architect highly scalable backend systems, low-latency APIs, and real-time event-driven infrastructure where downtime and lag are unacceptable.
• Build distributed systems capable of handling millions of concurrent betting transactions with strong consistency and fault tolerance.
• Own all high-level architectural decisions, technology evaluations, and proof-of-concepts as the final technical authority.
• Define secure and resilient platform architecture including authentication, fraud prevention, API protection, disaster recovery, and operational readiness.
• Establish engineering standards, architecture governance (ADRs), and scalable development practices across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and DevOps.
• Build and mentor engineering teams (internal and external) aligned with the long-term platform vision.
• Partner directly with the Co-Founders to translate ambitious business goals into scalable technical execution.

What You Bring

• Mandatory: Proven experience building a Sportsbook platform from scratch. This is a strict, non-negotiable requirement.
• Strong understanding of sportsbook architecture including betting engines, trading feeds, wallet integrations, settlement flows, player account systems, risk management, and real-time data processing.
• 3+ years as a Software Architect or Principal Engineer.
• 8+ years building high-volume, high-availability distributed systems in production environments.
• Deep backend engineering expertise with Node.js, Java, Go, or Python.
• Extensive experience designing event-driven and real-time systems using technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Strong cloud architecture experience with AWS or GCP, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Expert knowledge of PostgreSQL/MySQL, Redis, caching strategies, observability, and scalability patterns.
• Hands-on, pragmatic mindset with the ability to lead through technical credibility and execution.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain architectural trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
