A leading public sector organisation is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join its Network & Security Team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional who combines strong technical expertise with leadership capabilities. You'll play a key role in managing enterprise IT infrastructure, driving cybersecurity initiatives, and leading projects that support a secure and resilient technology environment.
 
The Role
Working within the Technology & Information Security function, you'll help oversee the day-to-day operations of the Network & Security Team while contributing to infrastructure, security, business continuity, and strategic technology projects.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily operations and technical sprints within the Network & Security Team.
• Lead infrastructure and cybersecurity projects while ensuring delivery against timelines and technical standards.
• Provide technical mentoring and guidance to systems and network engineers.
• Manage enterprise infrastructure including LAN/WAN, Windows Servers, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, storage, backup, and SQL environments.
• Administer security systems including CCTV, access control, SIEM, anti-malware, email security, and web filtering.
• Monitor system availability, backups, and infrastructure health.
• Investigate security alerts, coordinate incident response, and support vulnerability and penetration testing.
• Develop and maintain Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans, including annual testing and documentation.
• Manage supplier relationships, review SLAs, and support procurement of IT hardware and software.
• Produce technical documentation, policies, and infrastructure standards in line with ISO 27001 best practices.
• Provide second-line technical support and assist with user training when required.

 
About You
We're looking for someone with:

• An MQF Level 6 qualification in Computer Science (or MQF Level 5 with additional relevant experience).
• 4-5+ years of experience managing enterprise IT infrastructure.
• Strong experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, LAN/WAN networking, storage, backup, and systems administration.
• Excellent knowledge of IP networking, firewalls, antivirus, intrusion detection, and network security.
• Experience with business continuity, disaster recovery, and risk management.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and planning skills.
• Previous experience leading projects or mentoring technical teams.
• Excellent communication skills in both Maltese and English.

 
Nice to Have

• CCNA, MCSA, or equivalent industry certifications.
• Experience with SIEM platforms and vulnerability management tools.
• Knowledge of ISO 27001 and information security governance.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL administration and network optimisation solutions.
