  • Evaluate technical options, considering complexity, dependencies, risks and impact on existing applications.
  • Ensure technical designs follow established architecture principles and development standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal teams and external implementation partners.

Application Development & Technical Leadership
  • Lead development activities and remain hands-on in building complex application components, integrations and reusable solutions.
  • Establish and maintain development standards covering rulesets, branching, naming conventions, code reuse and unit testing.
  • Review technical designs and development work completed by internal developers and external suppliers.
  • Ensure solutions meet requirements relating to performance, security, maintainability and operational reliability.
  • Promote consistent development practices and high-quality technical delivery.

Platform Operations & Application Support
  • Support application releases and deployments, working closely with DevOps and release management teams.
  • Oversee technical preparation for releases, including deployment packaging, environment readiness and validation.
  • Provide Level 3 technical support, investigating complex incidents and identifying root causes.
  • Contribute to platform upgrades, performance optimisation, resilience improvements and technical debt management.
  • Work closely with infrastructure, cybersecurity and identity management teams to ensure effective platform integration and security.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, technical teams and implementation partners throughout the application lifecycle.
  • Review supplier-delivered solutions and provide recommendations on technical quality and compliance with development standards.
  • Maintain technical documentation and support effective knowledge transfer from external partners.
  • Mentor internal developers, share technical expertise and support professional development and certification.
  • Evaluate emerging platform capabilities, modern front-end technologies and AI-assisted development tools.
  • Recommend improvements that enhance application performance, development efficiency and long-term maintainability.

Requirements
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience in Software Engineering, Enterprise Application Development, Solution Architecture or a related field.
  • Degree in Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline at MQF/NQF Level 6 or higher, or an equivalent recognised professional qualification.
  • Candidates without the specified qualifications may also be considered with 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Substantial hands-on experience designing and developing enterprise applications using workflow, case-management or low-code platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, REST APIs, system integrations and application security.
  • Experience establishing development standards and reviewing technical solutions delivered by developers or external suppliers.
  • Experience supporting business-critical applications in production environments.
  • Good understanding of software release management, deployment processes and application lifecycle management.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to assess technical designs, challenge proposed solutions and make sound architectural decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to mentor developers and promote knowledge sharing.
