  • Fantastic opportunity to work in the most secure industry in Cyprus
  • Excellent benefits package
  • Great working environment and working flexibility

Our client operating in shipping, the most stable, secure and profitable industry of Cyprus is moving their data landscape onto a single modern data platform on Microsoft Fabric. They bring financial and operational data from their source systems into one governed model.

You'll join a small, highly capable team that works to high standards: clear conventions, peer review, and a strong focus on getting things right. In a team this size, your work is visible and has a direct effect on how the business makes decisions.

As their Data Engineer, you will build and run the pipelines that bring data into the platform and prepare for use. You will connect to the source systems and external APIs, load their data reliably and on schedule, and transform it into clean, consistent, source-aligned datasets. Everything analysts and analytics engineers deliver depends on the data you prepare and provide.

 Duties and responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain ingestion pipelines from databases, REST APIs and file-based sources, including authentication, incremental loading and error handling.
  • Transform and prepare data. Develop SQL and PySpark transformations that clean, standardise and historise source data into consistent, reusable datasets.
  • Understand the source systems. Analyse new sources to understand their structure, keys and how their data changes over time, and document what you find before you build.
  • Keep the platform running. Monitor scheduled loads, investigate and fix failures so issues are caught before the business notices them.
  • Build for quality. Add data quality checks to your pipelines, reconcile what you load against the source, and make sure a re-run never loses or duplicates data.
  • Work closely with our Senior Data Engineer. You'll work day to day with the Senior Data Engineer, who designed much of the platform and will help you learn its patterns and conventions quickly. You'll follow and contribute to the team's engineering standards, use version control and deployment pipelines, and document your work well enough for others to support it.

Experience and skills needed:

  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience in data engineering or a closely related role
  • Strong SQL: joins, window functions, CTEs, and writing transformation logic that is readable and performant
  • Working knowledge of Python, ideally for data processing (PySpark or pandas)
  • Experience building data pipelines with an orchestration tool such as Azure Data Factory, Fabric pipelines or similar
  • Experience working with REST APIs and JSON data, including authentication and pagination
  • A solid understanding of data warehousing concepts: layered architectures, incremental loads, slowly changing dimensions
  • Basic experience with Git and working in a shared codebase
  • Fluent English, spoken and written
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

What will set you apart

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, notebooks, pipelines) or similar platforms such as Databricks or Synapse
  • Experience with Spark and the Delta format
  • Familiarity with metadata-driven ingestion frameworks
  • CI/CD and deployment pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps)
  • Azure fundamentals such as Key Vault, storage accounts and Entra ID / service principal authentication
  • Exposure to Dynamics 365 F&O data, or to the shipping, logistics or maritime industry
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams

What the client offers

  • Attractive salary between 50,000 - 60,000 euro gross per year
  • Annual includes 13th salary and on top end of financial year bonus stable
  • Provident fund
  • Working flexibility
  • Private medical insurance for employee and family
  • Very stable working environment in the most stable sector in the country offering extreme job security
  • Great team initiatives and learning and development schemes
