Senior Backend Developer (Java / Distributed Systems)

A technology-driven software development company is looking to hire a Senior Backend Developer to join its growing engineering team in Sweden.
This is a hands-on senior role within a modern product engineering environment, where you'll work on scalable backend systems, event-driven architecture, and high-performance services used in real-world production environments.
 
The Role
You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and APIs that power core product functionality.
Working closely with experienced engineers, you will contribute to system design, performance improvements, and the evolution of a modern distributed architecture built for scalability and reliability.
This role suits someone who enjoys technical depth, clean architecture, and solving complex backend challenges in production environments.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services and server-side APIs used by frontend applications
• Work with event-driven architecture (Apache Kafka) and modern reactive programming approaches (Spring WebFlux)
• Build reusable components, libraries, and shared backend services
• Collaborate with engineers to improve system performance, scalability, and reliability
• Participate in technical design discussions and architecture decisions
• Support continuous improvement of engineering practices and code quality
• Work with systems operating in production environments with real users and real traffic

 
What We're Looking For

• Strong experience with Java 17+, Spring Framework, SQL, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Experience working with databases, deployments, and production systems
• Strong understanding of web application security (OWASP, OAuth2)
• Good architectural awareness and understanding of how systems integrate in larger ecosystems
• Hands-on experience in production-grade backend environments
• Ability to work independently and contribute technical improvements
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Fluent English communication skills

 
Nice to Have

• Experience integrating with third-party APIs (e.g. payments, gaming, external providers)
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP
